McKenney Recreation Center
In May of 2007 the Ragsdale daughters and Mr. Clifford Carnes graciously donated the Old Button Factory in McKenney, VA to the Dinwiddie County Parks and Recreation Department. The families wish was to see the building revitalized for the purpose of serving the community.
The Dinwiddie County Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide safe, clean, ever improving facilities, while offering diverse year round leisure and recreational opportunities for all of our citizens. We want to provide a balanced recreational program which will enhance the overall well being and quality of life for all who participate. The Dinwiddie County Parks and Recreation Department has worked indefatigably with Baxter Bailey & Associates, to create plans and a concept to transform this particular structure into a recreational facility that will serve the county and its’ citizens. We are excited to announce that this building, located at 20916 Old School Road, will be the future site of the McKenney Recreation Center. We do not have an established time line for the completion of the project, but we are enthusiastic about our progress thus far and excited about the future developments to come!
At the present time there are limited recreational activities and programs taking place in the McKenney area. This area of Dinwiddie is located on the far south-western end of the County which is about 30 miles away from our Recreation Office where we offer the majority of our services. This center will be designed to host a variety of diverse classes, programs and events. Along with these activities and other amenities the center will also house the McKenney branch of the Appomattox Regional Library system, thus allowing us to provide a myriad of new recreational services for this area of the County. |
